Death series

2020

By personally participating in the Hakka funeral ceremony as the starting point of inspiration, I can personally experience the contemporary young people's perception of death and the impact of traditional funeral culture. Taking the scene and concept of "summoning souls" in the ceremony as the theme and material for creation, a six-layer glass "lotus shape" integrated structure is designed from top to bottom. I want to show that the soul will linger in many complicated things in the world or in the underworld before finally returning to quietness. Throughout every time and space of everything, it is necessary to put aside distractions, choose direction and firm heart to reach the end.

Sinking

Stainless steel, Glass, 60 ×70 × 100cm, 2020

This group of pictures tells the story of death, out-of-body experience, lining up with other spirits, entering layers of boundaries, and finally leaving the world behind and returning to peace.

The Hakka believe in "Feng Shui", "the immortality of the soul" and "karma". I chose the most impressive part of the ritual of conjuring the soul , in which scene elements and cultural connotations are taken as the basis of creation. The shape of the work comes from the scene of conjuring the soul arranged by Feng Shui masters with mounds of earth, water and eggs. This glass work is my finally work for undergraduate study, which wants to commemorate my lost grandma and reflect the understanding of traditional culture of the younger generation.
